Tragedy at Annunciation Catholic School
On August 27, 2025, a tragic shooting at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis claimed the lives of two children and left 17 others injured during a morning Mass. Authorities confirmed the suspect as Robin Westman, who opened fire before taking their own life.
Victims and Weapons Used
The victims included an 8-year-old and a 10-year-old child. Most of the 17 wounded were students aged 6–15 and three elderly parishioners, who are all expected to survive. Westman was armed with a rifle, shotgun, and pistol, all purchased legally, according to ABC News.
Who Was Robin Westman?
Identified as a 23-year-old Minneapolis resident, Westman had attended Annunciation Catholic School in their youth. Records reveal they legally changed their name in 2020 and identified as female. Their mother worked as the school’s parish secretary until 2021.
Before the attack, Westman uploaded a disturbing “manifesto” to YouTube, filled with extremist symbols and ideologies, later removed with the help of the FBI.
Investigation and National Response
The FBI is investigating the shooting as both domestic terrorism and a hate crime against Catholics. Vigils have taken place across Minneapolis, and President Biden has ordered flags at half-staff nationwide in mourning.
